„The Great Gatsby“ is arguably the most famous novel of the “Roaring Twenties” and by the celebrated author F. Scott Fitzgerald. The story of the fabulously wealthy Jay Gatsby and the beautiful, jaded Daisy Buchanan takes place at a time when “gin was the national drink and sex the national obsession” (New York Times). The novel has been adapted for film multiple times, including versions starring Robert Redford and Leonardo DiCaprio. On the surface, the American Dream glitters with opulent parties, champagne fountains, music, and dance. Yet, wealth cannot disguise lost loves, vain illusions, and ultimate failure.
Actor Benno Fürmann skillfully captures all these facets and takes the audience to the dance floors of New York and into the world of glittering illusions. Lisa Bassenge and her musicians provide the perfect soundtrack for this era with furious jazz and swing standards.
Benjamin “Benno” Fürmann was born in 1982 in West Berlin. After his acting training at the famous Lee Strasberg Institute in New York, he took on numerous roles for film and television, both nationally and internationally, for example in “The Warrior and the Empress” or “Naked.” Most recently, he was seen as Colonel Günter Wendt in the series “Babylon Berlin.”
Lisa Bassenge performs from Berlin to the whole world. Her home base is jazz, but she is active in various styles and genres. In addition to solo projects, she was the frontwoman of the band “Nylon” as well as with “Micatone.”
