In the Eifel, a region rich in customs and traditions, the annual Harvest Festival Parade through Harperscheid and Schöneseiffen—an event that has become an integral part of the region—is one of the highlights of the year as it draws to a close.

The parade starts in Harperscheid and winds its way through the streets from Harperscheid to Schöneseiffen. As it does every year on the first Sunday in October, lovingly decorated floats, marching groups, and parade participants from the village gather in the two hilltop towns to celebrate this year’s harvest and all that the fields and gardens have yielded, and to say “thank you.” With their colorfully decorated vehicles and traditionally adorned walking groups, the participants showcase autumn at its finest.

The parade begins at 1:00 p.m. in Harperscheid. The Harvest Festival parade will be accompanied by music from the Schöneseiffen Music Association and the Dreiborn Drum Corps. The parade will assemble in the courtyard of the Thönnes and Köth companies in Harperscheid and then proceed along Hauptstraße to the war memorial, past the sports field to Hellenthaler Straße in Schöneseiffen, and finally down Dorfstraße to the Schöneseiffen Community Center. The doors there will open as early as 2:00 p.m. Coffee and cake, as well as hearty meals, will be available for visitors.

There’s plenty for the kids to enjoy, too. Starting around 3:00 p.m., they can get their faces painted. Musical entertainment will be provided by the duo “da vinci.”

The Harperscheid-Schöneseiffen Citizens’ and Clubs’ Association is organizing the harvest festival parade. And they’re not just celebrating—they’re also donating the proceeds back to the village community. Children in both villages can look forward to Harvest Festival pretzels and St. Martin’s rolls, and support will also be provided for senior citizens.
