Sonderausstellung "TUCHFÜHLUNG"
Sep 6, 2026 - Oct 21, 2026
Bad Münstereifel-Rupperath
In conjunction with our "1qmLein" project, we are presenting the special exhibition "The Shirt—The Archetype of Garments." It is a loose-fitting, smock-like garment made of linen, cotton, silk, or wool.
In ancient times, it was worn as an outer garment; in the Middle Ages, usually collarless, it served as an undergarment. From the 16th century onward, it was fitted with a ruff and, richly decorated, once again became a prominent outer garment. The modern shirt cut evolved in the 19th century.
Through a collection of shirts dating back approximately 100–150 years, the exhibition showcases the meticulous craftsmanship—some of which was still entirely hand-sewn—with a special focus on the charming, practical, and useful details.
