Jun 14, 2026
Kall-Steinfeld
Axel Wilberg (*1976 in Mechernich) received his first organ lessons from Kurt Ludwig Forg and attended the music school in Euskirchen (piano, oboe, and composition). After graduating from St. Michael Gymnasium in Bad Münstereifel, he studied church music, instrumental education, organ, and harpsichord in Aachen, Augsburg, and Nuremberg (organ with Prof. Karl Maureen, improvisation with Prof. Johannes Mayr, choral conducting with Prof. Alfons Brandl, harpsichord with Andreas Maisch and Oscar Milani). He completed his studies with the A exam, the music teacher diploma, and the artistic maturity exam. Training as an organ expert and numerous master classes with renowned artists such as Jon Laukvik, Heinz Wunderlich, Guy Bovet, Gerd Zacher, Stefan Engels, Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini, Ton Koopman, Ben van Oosten, Daniel Roth, Ludger Lohmann, and Christopher Herrick rounded off his education.
From 2005 to 2008, he worked as a cantor in Mering and Bonn. In 2008, he transitioned into teaching and passed his second state examination as a secondary school teacher in 2010. Currently, Axel Wilberg is a senior teacher for music and physics at Johannes-Sturmius-Gymnasium in Schleiden. From 2014 to 2016, he was a lecturer for organ at the University of Koblenz. Recordings and journalistic work for specialist magazines complement his artistic profile. Axel Wilberg has been performing concerts since 1993 in various European and North American countries.
