Lit.Eifel: "Mathilde und Marie"
Apr 17, 2026
Nettersheim
In Redu, a small book village in the midst of the Belgian Ardennes, time is felt as a friend and not an enemy: Surrounded by extensive forests, rushing rivers, and steep hills, there is only one television, while the internet is only available between 7 PM and 8 PM – thanks to a municipal decision and an elaborate network of Wi-Fi repeaters. The church tower, leaning awkwardly into the sky and about to collapse, bothers the 390 inhabitants just as little as the completely out-of-sync clock tower. However, when the young Frenchwoman Marie arrives in the village and spring takes hold, not only is nature revived. Even the grumpy Mathilde, to whom everything is otherwise terribly indifferent, cannot escape this development …
Torsten Woywod (*1981) worked as a bookseller and in online marketing before taking over the marketing management of DuMont Buchverlag in 2021. For his commitment to the book world, he received the Young Excellence Award in 2015, among others. Most recently, he founded the publishing house WOYWOD & MEURER with his girlfriend, whose debut publication ›Leonard und Paul‹ was a SPIEGEL bestseller and nominated for the Favorite Book of the Independents. With ›Mathilde und Marie‹, he now presents his first own novel, inspired by his travels through the bookstores of this world.
