Tag der offenen Töpferei - Studio Mai

Mar 14, 2026 - Mar 15, 2026

Nettesheim

The "Day of Open Pottery" takes place for the 21st time nationwide in Germany. A total of 516 professional ceramicists open their workshops and studio doors from 10 AM to 6 PM and warmly invite you to experience this increasingly rare craft. After a significant decrease in the number of participating workshops in North Rhine-Westphalia, 35 ceramicists are now taking part again.

Among them is the Studio Mai from Marmagen, run by Charlotte Pulm, Master of Arts in Product Design. She invites you to discover the vast range of various production techniques in the pottery craft. Visitors can, for example, watch the free turning at the potter's wheel. The topic "Forgotten Kitchen Ceramics" will showcase the challenging production of bundt pans, lemon squeezers, and jam funnels at the potter's wheel in Studio Mai. There will be guided tours through the workshops and hands-on activities. In Marmagen, you can even throw your own thumb bowl. Visitors are welcome to be inspired and convinced by the quality and beauty of ceramic products.

The event "Thrown into Shape" takes place for the fourth time this year. The participating workshops design a special bowl in limited quantities for this purpose. These unique collector's items exemplify the diversity and uniqueness of handmade ceramics today. Charlotte Pulm has also designed very special unique pieces for this event and crafted them with skilled handiwork.

The shared website www.tag-der-offenen-toepferei.de and the flyer available in North Rhine-Westphalia provide information about the offerings of the participants, the locations of their workshops and studios, and who from them will take part in the "Bowl Action 2026."

Since 2025, the pottery and ceramics craft in Germany has been listed in the national directory of intangible cultural heritage as part of the national implementation of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage. The motto here is: "Knowledge. Skill. Pass it on."

Demonstrations at the potter's wheel take place at 11:00 AM, 2:00 PM, and 4:00 PM.
