Durch das Kalltal um Kommerscheidt - 13 km, 315 HM | Eifelverein OG Heimbach
Apr 26, 2026
Heimbach
Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 10:00 AM
Circular hike of 13 km length and approx. 315 meters in ascent and descent.
The walking time is about 4 hours.
Our hike begins at the hiking parking lot of St. Hubertus Church in Schmidt. Lovingly, it is also called "Sankt Mokka" by the locals. We will learn how this name came about at the start of the hike. Now we go down a gentle descent into the Kall valley. Along the way, we have wonderful views of the Eifel landscape. We cross a historically significant bridge over the Kall and hike along the river for a while. During this, we experience different facets of the idyllic Kall – sometimes as a wild river, at other times as a quiet Eifel river. Before we embark on the gentle but steady ascent back to Schmidt, we take a break to refuel. During the hike, we pass many interesting locations. For example, we pass a geological saddle at Teufelsley and learn how it was formed. We can also view a charcoal kiln up close. Before the final ascent to Schmidt, there is an opportunity to admire a beaver dam. Once we reach the top, we have another great view of the Rursee. Our hike today is now slowly coming to an end, and we will reach our parking lot again in a few minutes.
Meeting point: Parking lot Laag (near the glass containers), Heimbach
Participation in the hike is free. However, the hiking guide Guido Hendle requests registration by April 25, 2026, at 6 PM.
Bring your own snacks, a meal is planned after the hike.
