Lapland, the rugged, wild land at the northern edge of Europe, stretches from Norway through Sweden and Finland to the Russian Kola Peninsula. Its untamed nature has dictated the rhythm of life for the Sámi as well as for southern Scandinavian immigrants since time immemorial. Lapland's lavish beauty has captivated travelers and locals alike for ages with its wildly rugged, lush green rock coasts, majestic snow-covered fells, gnarled birches, wild rivers, and intoxicating autumn colors.
Throughout the seasons, Walter Steinberg and Siglinde Fischer have repeatedly traveled through wild Lapland – most recently accompanied by their mixed-breed dog Motte. Whether on foot, snowshoes, or in a canoe, the three have journeyed together. They followed the Kungsleden for over four hundred kilometers, which winds through Sweden's highest mountains near the Norwegian border: Initially, troll flowers and snow fields line the path, later blueberries, birch mushrooms, and the first fresh snow.

The Torneträsk, one of Lapland's countless lakes, invites adventurers for a canoe experience. In the wintry wilderness of Sweden's Sarek National Park, Steinberg and Fischer had the opportunity to witness the Northern Lights at temperatures of -28°C and enjoy the endless winter wonderland. The two adventurers explored the Norwegian Arctic Ocean by kayak and got lost in the labyrinth of islands of the vast Inari Lake. During a reindeer sorting, Sámi catch their animals from thousands of reindeer. Steinberg presents all of this up close, as well as the shimmering glacier ice of Svartisen, the fleeting beauty of delicate flowers, or the hard work of gold diggers at the Finnish Ivalojoki.
Despite all the mosquitoes, despite harsh weather conditions: Lapland captivates time and again with its lavish beauty. Let yourself be taken on a journey into the untamed, intoxicatingly beautiful nature of the high north!
