Ulla Lohmann talks about her childhood and youth between 1949 and 1969 on the Dutch border: growing up in the post-war period in a conservative home, the paternalism of her parents, family vacations and celebrations, relatives, school and church, life in the village, communion, confession and processions - and her growing desire for change and self-determination.
About Ulla Lohmann:
Born and raised in the Rhineland near the Dutch border in 1949, Ulla Lohmann has lived and worked in Hamburg since 1969. After studying natural sciences, she worked for many years in research and in urban and landscape planning. She was also involved in cultural politics from 1978 to 2001. She has been collecting contemporary art for over five decades. Since 1994, she has been organizing events in her non-commercial exhibition space C15 - such as author readings as part of the dialogKULTUR discussion series. Ulla Lohmann is an editor and author of publications on art and society and is active in art education with the LOHMANNdialog format, and is a board member of the ULLA UND HEINZ LOHMANN STIFTUNG für experimentelle Gegenwartskunst.
