Lebensraum zwischen Wasser und Weide – Wo Feuchtigkeit Vielfalt schafft

Stolberg

What looks like a simple meadow is actually a small natural wonder.

Where water lingers longer, wet meadows form—habitats of particular importance for the water cycle, biodiversity, and the climate. They store precipitation, mitigate flooding, and stabilize the water table. At the same time, they provide a home for specialized species such as dragonflies, frogs, and specific plants.

Marsh marigolds, cuckoo flowers, lesser hawkweed, common yarrow, and common horned clover all grow there. The broad-leaved marsh orchid, a native orchid species that prefers nutrient-poor, unfertilized sites, is also particularly beautiful.

Tip: As you walk, keep an eye out for the damp areas along the path. With a little luck, you might spot dragonflies, frogs, or special plant species there.

This route was developed as part of the LEADER-funded project “Quality Initiative for Hiking in Roetgen and Stolberg” with support from the European Union (EAFRD) and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
