Olef is one of the oldest parish towns in the Eifel region and boasts a history dating back to the 13th century. After a devastating fire in 1697, the town was rebuilt around a triangular square—and it is precisely this historic town center that makes Olef so special today.
Around the triangular square, you can discover carefully restored half-timbered farmhouses dating from around 1700. Some still bear the date 1697. Together with the historic parish church, the parish hall, old quarrystone buildings, and the village cross, they create an exceptionally cohesive and picturesque village scene, the likes of which are rarely found in the Eifel today.
On a stroll through the historic alleys, you can experience the village’s special atmosphere and discover numerous well-preserved buildings from past centuries. Located right next to the Eifel National Park, Olef combines history, half-timbered architecture, and Eifel village life in a very special way.
