Eifel-Blick Kierberg in Monschau
Monschau
The Kierberg lies at an altitude of 450 meters above sea level. From here you can look out over the picturesque old town of the climatic health resort of Monschau. Monschau was first mentioned in a document as early as 1198. A little later the lords of "Montjoie" built a castle on a rocky promontory above the Rur valley. Monschau experienced its heyday in the 18th century when it became world famous for its textile industry. Many buildings in the romantic old town also date from this period. Thanks to the many slate-clad houses and half-timbered buildings, it looks almost the same today as it did 250 years ago. Particularly worth seeing is the "Red House", whose complete furnishings from the 18th century give a lively impression of the lifestyle of an upper-class family. Coming from the city center, follow the Eifelsteig or the main hiking trail 12 to the viewpoint above the cemetery.
