Burg Kühlseggen

Weilerswist

Kühlseggen Castle, one of the most impressive moated castles in the region, is a moated castle converted into a private house with a large outer bailey, whose beginnings lie in the 15th/16th century. Until 1962, the moated castle was not inhabited, and its buildings fell into disrepair. Then these were extensively renovated and rebuilt to be used as a private residence.

Until well into the 19th century, the buildings of the castle complex stood on two islands: a high heaped one with the manor house and a second island on which the outer bailey stood. An outdoor tour is possible outside the moat on a circular path. The castle itself is privately owned and cannot be visited.

Kronenburg

The castle ruin and fortified settlement of Kronenburg Kronenburg Castle was one of the characteristic medieval hill-castles of the Eifel built on the spur of a ridge in the Upper Kyll Valley. The self-contained impression of the castle ruin, outer bailey and fortified settlement and their adaptation to the topography make the special charm of this site. Kronenburg was first mentioned in a charter of the Abbey Stablo Malmedy in 1277. Today the locality is a touristic attraction in the Upper Kyll Valley.
