Sonderausstellung: "Neubeginn im Frieden. Euskichen 1945-1961"
Jun 15, 2025 - Feb 8, 2026
Euskirchen
The exhibition focuses on the period of a special transition: the situation in Euskirchen after the occupation by the American forces in March 1945 and the first years after the end of the Second World War.
The post-war years in Euskirchen - as everywhere in Germany and Europe - are characterized by the consequences of traumatic war experiences, whether at home, in evacuation or at the front; by a difficult supply situation and great individual insecurity. In addition, the city was under the control of the Belgian occupying forces for years. Touching photos and objects illustrate the dramatic transition from war to peace and the start of a new democratic social order.
Today, 80 years after the end of the war, Germany, and therefore also Euskirchen, lives in peace and freedom with its European neighbors and the world. Preserving this achievement is our mission for the future.
