Lit.Eifel: "Bei Anruf Klopstock"
Oct 7, 2025
Nettersheim
Every year, the "German Academy for Language and Poetry", in cooperation with the "Lyrik Kabinett" in Munich, the "Haus für Poesie" in Berlin and the "German Library Association", selects the most important and recommendable new publications in the field of poetry. A high-ranking jury selects the most outstanding volumes of poetry from hundreds of new publications. This year's LYRIK RECOMMENDATIONS 2025 include a wonderful volume of poetry by the renowned poet Richard Dove.
The title of the volume evokes memories of the legendary film by Alfred Hitchcock; the subtitle "Zeitgedichte" (contemporary poems) indicates that it is about our present and its complex social and (world) political circumstances. Visitors to this poetic evening will be enchanted by a charismatic poet who succeeds in opening up new perspectives on our reality with sensuality and linguistic magic.
In the jury's justification for selecting the volume as "LYRIK-EMPFEHLUNG 2025", Joachim Sartorius wrote:
"No one I know fits the description 'poeta doctus' better than Richard Dove. His latest volume of poetry also impresses with its stupendous knowledge, which reaches far back into the past and earlier cultures and literatures, but at the same time is paired with a keen sense of the current times."
Richard Dove, born in Bath in 1954, studied German literature at Oxford, has lived intermittently in Bavaria since 1981, first in Regensburg and since 1987 in Munich. Numerous publications, translations and essays on poetry. Since his first collection "Aus einem früheren Leben", which was still written in English, he has published six volumes of poetry in German, most recently "Straßenbahn, Hiroshima" (2011), "Die zwei Jahreszeiten" (2016) and "Unterwegs nach San Borodón" (2020).
