In 1943 Berlin, Emma's situation seems hopeless: her husband, a high-ranking SS officer, never misses an opportunity to demonstrate his power and control over her. Her resistance has been growing for years. An unexpected encounter with Johann, a charismatic work colleague of her husband, changes everything. When Johann suddenly disappears after a wave of arrests, the argument between Emma and her husband escalates. She has to flee and leave her son behind. Emma joins a resistance group. Torn between the fight against the National Socialist regime and her son, she ultimately has to make a difficult decision.
