Konzertreihe KULTURVISION: 100 years of John Coltrane - OPEN AIR
Aug 16, 2026
Dahlem-Kronenburg
Together with the three outstanding tenor saxophonists Tony Lakatos, Johannes Müller, and Gilad Atzmon, the band presents an energetic, deeply felt tribute to one of the most influential musicians in jazz history.
Coltrane represents like no other the spiritual dimension of jazz – the tireless search for expression, freedom, and depth. The program 100 Years of John Coltrane combines newly arranged classics like Equinox or A Love Supreme with somewhat lesser-known, but no less excellent works like Lonnies Lament or Grand Central, thus creating a coherent picture of Coltrane’s entire oeuvre.
The program was specifically written for this project by the renowned Kronenburg arranger Frank Reinshagen for a Small Big Band setup (10 musicians) and the three soloists. The arrangements of the Big Band open space for dense sound colors, powerful brass ensembles, and expressive solos of the three tenors, whose individual voices engage in an intense dialogue. The result is a sonic firework between tradition and modernity – a bow to Coltrane’s legacy!
