Heiltumsfahrt in Blankenheim
Aug 10, 2025 - Aug 17, 2025
Blankenheim
Until the Thirty Years' War, there was a pilgrimage to the shrine in Blankenheim, which attracted thousands of pilgrims to Blankenheim every year.
The old tradition was revived for the 450th anniversary of the parish church. However, it fell into disuse again and what remained was the procession of relics with the relic of St. George on St. George's Day in April.
The parish committee revisited the old tradition in 2022 and will now celebrate a "festival week" with the relics for the third time in August. This will give people and pilgrims the opportunity to take a fresh look at the precious cloth relics and the bust of St. George and to rediscover Christ in Blankenheim.
The cloth relics are sewn onto the center of the six reliquaries and surrounded by elaborate embroidery. These are the sweat cloth of the Mother of God; a cloth with the remains of the communion cloth; a piece of the tunic of St. Gordianus; a piece of the shroud of St. Gertrude; a piece of the undergarment of St. Walburga and the remains of the shroud of St. Laurentius.
