After training as a pattern draughtswoman, she studied graphic design, fine art, photography and film.
International work stays have taken her to China, Israel, Japan and Hungary, among other places. Since 1990, her focus has been on constructively influenced sculpture, in which space and structure are central themes. Her
drawings are also the result of thinking in and about space. She often works with templates, uses systematic repetitions and takes up principles of modular construction. In contrast to technical or digital drawings, she does not design the space concretely, but defines it through abstract structures - precise, yet open to interpretation.

Helga Weihs was selected for the NRW Manufactum 2025 State Prize in the object and sculpture category for the exhibition and will be showing her work at the Museum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte Dortmund from June 22 to September 21, 2025.
