Art has a long tradition in the Martens family. Wolfgang Martens also participated in the Uelzen art circle as a student where he engaged in special activities. Due to close contact with significant museums in the area and through acquaintances with important art historians, it was logical that he also began his art studies at the Berlin Academy of Arts. Through this exhibition, he aims to highlight the connection and the artistic work of his family and relatives. Early on, connections to the corresponding relatives were established, or if they had already passed away, he collected material and works from them. However, through this exhibition and his genealogy research, he has been able to establish new surprising connections.
The exhibition showcases the individual biographies and originals or images of their artistic activities. Different artistic directions and techniques are revealed. The exhibition is supported by relevant tools from individual family members. The works from early childhood and the further development of individual family members are particularly interesting. For Wolfgang Martens, it was important to recognize which external influences or those from his family were decisive for his artistic career. Thus, the discussions within the family, in school, and in his environment have had significant importance for him. The exhibition clearly illustrates the artistic background of his family. It is astonishing that not only the purchase of the Kronenburg art stable played a crucial role, but also that the artistic connection reached all the way to Kronenburg. All these hints are intended to be presented in more detail in the new exhibition. This way, visitors embark on an exciting journey through the development of the Martens family.
