Ausstellung: Archäologie im Rheinland 2025
May 12, 2026 - Aug 30, 2026
Zülpich
The Roman Baths Zülpich - Museum of Bath Culture invites you on a time journey through millions of years – with finds from early earth history to World War II. In the exhibition "Archaeology in the Rhineland 2025," the LVR Office for Archaeological Heritage Preservation in the Rhineland presents outstanding finds from the past year and the latest archaeological research results.
The exhibition showcases the diversity of Rhineland cultural heritage from many millennia as well as the transformation of the landscape over millions of years: fossils from the Bergisches Land tell of a time when a warm, tropical sea surged here. Lovingly selected grave goods from the district of Wesel remind of the early deceased Roman boy Neuto, and the remains of a factory from the Gründerzeit in Duisburg's Dellviertel illuminate the beginnings of the chemical industry in North Rhine-Westphalia. Among the significant findings in the exhibition are also more recent artifacts, such as from the war debris at Cologne's Heumarkt or the remnants of a 1943 crash of a Royal Air Force aircraft in the vicinity of the Hambach open pit mining.
A highlight that is being presented for the first time in the Zülpich exhibition is a combat helmet from the 15th century, which was only excavated last year at Schloss Burg, and whose restoration could just in time be completed for the exhibition. A local sensation for Zülpich is the approximately 6,000-year-old copper axe blade from the district of Sinzenich – the oldest metal artifact in the Rhineland so far!
