1930 to 2016

The water tower in Mausbach began operating in 1930 and remained a central component of the water supply until 2016. It supplied the Donnerberg district of the city of Stolberg and maintained constant water pressure in the pipes.

For many years, the tower towered over the Diepenlinchen Forest and was visible from afar. As a result, it became a landmark of Mausbach and a popular hiking destination for the residents of Mausbach. Over the years, the tower was renovated and expanded several times.

The Diepenlinchen Forest, which stretches from Diepenlinchen to the Bernardshammer and Binsfeldhammer areas, was once an important route for commuters who traveled daily to work in Stolberg’s industrial sector—a use that continued well into the postwar period.

Today, this small wooded area serves as a local recreation area and offers walkers and hikers a green retreat.

This route was developed as part of the LEADER-funded project “Quality Initiative for Hiking in Roetgen and Stolberg” with support from the European Union (EAFRD) and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
