School at the market, the boys' school at Kuckertzberg was built in 1877. After World War II, the school was almost in ruins but was refurbished for instruction again.

Boys' School at Kuckertzberg

Construction of the Mausbacher School began in 1877 in the so-called Kuckertz-Kuhl, a former ore mine. The area, which today includes Markusplatz and parts of Krewinkeler Straße, was so ample that two additional school classes could be added in 1883.

The school chronicle, which contained important information about the school's development for the next 70 years, was lost during World War II. After the return of the evacuated population in 1945, the abandoned school building was looted by the residents and used to restore their homes. The building, initially left without a roof, doors, and windows, was subject to decay, and even the floors were damaged or removed.

In September 1945, the roof was temporarily covered with cartridge paper to protect the building from wind and rain. Classes could finally be resumed in the old school – initially without teaching and learning materials, but with the remaining school desks. Before the return of the population, the school buildings had served as a hospital.

On November 8, 1945, the festive reopening took place under school councilor Förster. The teaching staff consisted of Margarethe Zielgers (1st and 2nd grade), Anna Pflugfelder (3rd grade), August Kaltenborn (4th and 5th grade), and Josef Soldierer (6th and 7th grade).
