Haller Ruine

Monschau

The tower on the Rahmenberg above the market square is one of the town's most striking landmarks. The ruins can be reached in just a few minutes via a footpath over the "Half Moon", another viewpoint on the way up.
The Haller is commonly referred to as the castle's observation post because it provided a much better view of the Rur valley. Other sources see it as an outer bailey to protect the Reichenstein monastery, and in a drawing from 1543 it is still depicted as a roofed, imposing tower. In 1570, its stones were used to repair the castle.
