Eifel-Blick "Schöne Aussicht"

Nideggen

The Eifel view "Schöne Aussicht" on the "Simonsley" (415 meters above sea level) offers you an impressive panorama above the Rursee in a south-east to south-west direction, with the "Kermeter", a core area in the Eifel National Park, drawing the eye.

Iron ore was mined at "Simonsley" until the 19th century. The founder of the ironworks in Simonskall, Simon Kremer, owned mining rights at this location in the 17th century and operated an iron ore mine, so that the name "Simonsley" (ley = rock) still refers to it today. There are also former tunnels and pings (mounds of earth with depressions) which indicate that there was a lot of excavation activity.
