Bunker 755a/755b – Relikte des Westwalls

What initially appears to be two inconspicuous rock blocks are, in fact, massively constructed military facilities: Bunkers 755a and 755b, remnants of the former West Wall.
The West Wall was a large-scale defensive line of the German Empire during World War II. From 1938 onwards, it was built along the western border and consisted of an extensive system of bunkers, positions, and obstacles for the military security of the area.
The construction followed a clear purpose. Thick reinforced concrete walls, often additionally covered with earth, were meant to provide protection from gunfire and to camouflage the facilities. The bunkers primarily served for observation as well as protection and retreat spaces.
The facilities at Süssendell were part of this military network. Today, they have no function – they are stone witnesses of a time when the region was directly affected by war.
