Alte Waldberufe – Menschen im Dienst des Waldes

Stolberg

Back then, the forest was not only a habitat but also a source of supply and a workplace. Those who wander through the woods around Zweifall today may still discover old logging paths, resin traces on the trees, or remnants of forgotten charcoal sites. They are testimonies of a time when the forest was still managed with muscle power and horses.

Charcoal burners, resin collectors, lumberjacks, and teamsters shaped everyday life around Zweifall. They worked with axes and horses, collected resin, transported logs, and knew every slope, every tree. Their work was physically demanding and required a lot of experience, strength, and knowledge of nature.

And even though many of these professions have long disappeared, old paths, tools, and traces in the terrain still bear witness to this time when people and the forest were closely connected.
